Japanese-American Anthology Project

I want to share our perspective, and what it means to be the descendant of an internee.

My Name is Gwyne Yoko Copeland

I am a Japanese American journalist and a descendant of a Japanese internees. Nearly 80 years on, the legacy of internment lives on in our lives. Iā€™m interested in documenting our collective experiences in light of the historical impact of Japanese internment camps during WWII. I am embarking on a book project to tell out stories ā€“ some inspirational, some less so ā€“ and share them with the world. I will donate all proceeds from the book to organizations that are dedicated to preserving the testimony of those who were unjustly incarcerated and telling the story of the Japanese American experience.

Share Your Story

To complete this project, I need your help! I need stories about our current lives, historical documentations, family and stories and legends about past experiences that are passed down in Japanese American families. I also need help organizing within the community, getting the word out, and getting people together, face to face, to meet long lost friends and distant family members.
